I am a loving lady looking for a loving family. I can sit on command walk on a leash. I would love to have some children to herd. I love to talk but do so in a very quiet inside voice. We could have some great conversations. I am really good a wagging what little tail I have left. My hair is not too long but will need to be brushed to keep it looking its best. I would be a great friend for someone. We could walk and talk every day.

  • Sex: Male
  • Age: Senior
  • Size: Large
  • ID: 510436-AC6-4626
From: Madera County Animal Control
Toby is so very sweet and lovable! He’s about 9 years old, but doesn’t act a lick of his age. This charming guy needs an active family to play and do things with him. He walks well on a leash, and needs a walking/jogging partner.

Toby has long hair, so he’ll need someone to brush him weekly and make sure his coat stays nice and clean. This fella is very social and happy to be around people. If you have a place in your home for this sweet boy, come check him out today!

  • Breed: Border Collie
  • Sex: Female
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Large
  • ID: 471339-3796-FF
From: Madera County Animal Control

I got the name Sprinkles because I have sprinkles of black spots in my white fur; not because I sprinkle in places I shouldn't. I really like people a lot. I can walk on a leash really well. I probably do other things well but need help to remember them all. I really would like to have a forever family to run, play catch, and learn new tricks with. I am such a happy loving guy you will not be disappointed if you take me home with you. What do you say????

Jazz D2194

Breed:
Border Collie
Sex:
F
Size:
38 lbs.
Hair:
Black and White
Age:
6 months in Apr. 2008
Housebroken?
Y

Description:
Rescued 4/10/08 from Tri-City Animal Shelter. Jazz is very friendly and sweet. Loves attention and will give you kisses. Good with other dogs once she knows them. Right now she still needs training when she sees a new dog. She is interested cats, but with positive introduction of the cats at the vet office, she was good with them. Will chase if the cat runs. She just needs a very experienced dog and border collie person to train and work with her. Need leash and basic training, but learning fast. She's very smart. She needs a very experienced border collie person to exercise (run/jog/work) her daily and train her in a sport like agility, flyball or maybe frisbee. Now at her foster home dogs@furryfriendsrescue.org

0804k025- Goofy - 1 year old, male, Australian shepherd/ Border collie
Description: Wow, he couldn’t have been given a better name for his
personality. Goofy came to us in April 2008 along with 9 other dogs from a
shelter in Merced where they were all at high risk of being euthanized.
He’s Mr. Personality and he is ready to charm his way into his new home.
Goofy does not seem to have been leash trained and zig zags in front of
you while you walk him. He also didn’t appear to know any commands, but
when I sat down to teach him sit, it took him minutes to get it down. If
you find the right treat and are consistent with him, anything is
possible! Goofy met a male dog and a female dog here, the male he growled
at and didn’t seem too pleased to be around; the female he initiated play
with and jumped around and pawed at her. In that case, Goofy can’t go to a
home with any male dogs, but females will be fine. He met that other male
before being neutered and I’m sure that will help, but just to be safe,
keep it female for this guy. Goofy was introduced to our shelter cats and
just followed them around sniffing them, I think in a comfortable setting
he would chase cats and wouldn’t put him in a home with any. He was just
so interested in the cats here, and taking his breed mix into account, it
just doesn’t add up to being a cat friendly dog. Goofy would be great for
a home with kids over eight. I’m sure he would love to herd some small
kids and sometimes can get too excited and jump up. Some sturdy, dog
experienced kids would be ideal for this bouncy guy. Goofy is just plain
fun and in the right home, his personality will shine. Adoption- $75

0804k026- Shep - 4 year old, male, Australian shepherd/ border collie
Description: Shep is a very handsome, lovely dog. He came to us in April
2008 along with 9 other dogs from a shelter in Merced where they were all
at high risk of being euthanized. Shep is such a cool guy. He’s so laid
back and relaxed for his breed mix! I couldn’t believe it. Shep knows a
few commands including “sit”, “down” and “stay”. Shep is VERY smart, he
won’t be difficult to train further. Usually with this breed I would say
he’d need a highly active home, but he seems so mellow. If you’re
considering taking Shep home, you should be aware that there is a chance
he won’t be so calm in your home after he’s comfortable, and be prepared
for a classic herding dog personality. Shep met some dogs here and was
fine with them, he’s more interested in people than anything else,
including cats. I had to force him to look at a cat when I brought them to
meet him, he just stared at me the whole time asking me to pet him. when I
finally got him to look at the cat he couldn’t have cared less! A multiple
pet home will be fine for him. Shep would be great in a home with kids of
any age, the only concern is the herding instinct. Because of that he
should go to a home with kids over five, toddlers are fun to herd! Shep is
a sweet, good natured, gentleman that deserves to be treated with the same
respect he treats us with. A home where he’s allowed inside with his
family, but still has plenty of playtime would be ideal for him. Adoption-
$75.

Sasha was turned into the Madera Animal Shelter along with her litter of 8 pups because her owner was no longer able to care for her. Her pups are now weaned and she is ready to find her forever home.
Her owner said she was a Border Collie mix and we think we see a lot of Kelpie in her which is a lesser know breed of herding dog
Sasha is about 2 years old and still acts like a pup herself. She is very playful and loves to run and wrestle. She gets along well with other dogs but apparently does not like cats.
Her adoption fee is $95.00 which includes her spay surgery, her  vaccinations, and a microchip for identification.
If you are interested in adopting Sasha, please contact her foster parents at 559-658-6316. She is at their house in Coarsegold, which is about halfway between Fresno and the south entrance to Yosemite.

Reba and her foster sibling.                                    Reba and her foster sibling.

If you're looking for an energetic dog that wants to work, you really should take a look at Reba!! Border Collie/Kelpie mix.... Throw two herding breeds together and you've got a dog that really needs a job. Typical of most Border Collies, she works hard to please her owner. She has extreme herding instincts so if you have a working ranch and have been looking for a working dog, she will fit perfectly. She loves people and really love kids! Her tail wags non-stop when she gets to play with the kids or other dog's in her foster home. Reba loves to play fetch and go to the doggie park and will run beyond exhaustion.... If you have any questions or, would like to visit Reba, please contact Jay at jjnov@rcn.com

Clover is a Border Collie/Great Dane mix that we rescued from Merced
Animal Control.  She is currently a little over a year old.  Clover is a
sweet young lady who's looking for a family who will be patient and have
enough time to take her to Basic Obedience Classes! She is a little
reactive to other dogs on leash, but only because she is frustrated and
wants to play. Clover may be ok with kids who are 13 and up because of
her size and energy level.

Veronica is a Border Collie/German Shepard mix that we rescued from
Martinez Animal Control.  She is around two years old. Veronica is the
life of the party! She will keep you on your toes with her zest for
life. She loves to run and explore. Veronica has distinctive markings
and has the most gorgeous coat of fur. She is a great companion for
someone who loves the outdoors, or an active person or family. How about
a nice jog, followed by a belly rub? Veronica is super smart and enjoys
training. She learns quickly and has some good training under her belt
already, thanks to our staff. Families with kids should know: Veronica
may be a good choice, but she is an adolescent and may have too much
energy for some children. A free private training session with the
Humane Society's head trainer will be included with Veronica's adoption.
